Palliative Care

Palliative Care Service

Palliative care is a specialized form of medical care that provides comfort and relief to patients with serious, debilitating illnesses, or who are undergoing curative treatments like chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

It is aimed at relieving distressing symptoms such as extreme pain, breathing difficulties, and nausea, to sleep issues, fatigue, and weight loss. Palliative care can also include helping an individual to figure out their best treatment options, while meeting their social and practical needs.

This extends to family members as well. It plays an important role in supporting their own mental comfort and emotional state of mind. We collaborate with other healthcare practitioners, doctors, nurses, and social workers, to establish a care plan that is comprehensive and effective.

Anyone with a serious illness may receive palliative care services. Getting started with Compassion Home Care begins with an assessment of your condition, so that we can understand your needs, and go from there.

We use a specialized team

Our team's primary goal is to bring the patient relief from  whatever physical or emotional symptoms are affecting them. It could be anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, chronic nerve pain, or some other issue. Palliative care can be provided at any stage of a serious illness. Very often it is delivered at the same time the patient is undergoing medical treatments that are designed to cure the illness.

Palliative care is flexible

Our in-home palliative care program is flexible, and can be administered as soon as a serious illness is diagnosed, or at any point during the progression of the illness. It does not in any way interfere with the primary treatment that has been prescribed by your doctor for, among other things, cancer, stroke, organ failure, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, kidney disease, and COPD.

We take a holistic approach

A patient who is dealing with a serious illness often experiences a range of issues that run the gamut from physical and emotional, to spiritual and social. Our preferred approach is to address the whole person by taking all those areas into account, rather than limiting our attention to just the symptoms of the illness. Our patients have seen better and faster results with this approach.

Is palliative care right for You?

Palliative care may be right for you if you are struggling to manage pain and need help understanding your condition. Maybe you want to maintain your quality of life while you continue the treatment regimen your doctor has outlined for you. Perhaps you want to learn new strategies you can use every day to get relief and feel batter. Our palliative care service delivers those results and more.

  • Improved daily function: Contributes to better mobility, strength, exercise, and the ability to maintain some degree of independent activity.
